Well, the heading was my contribution to April's fools day, there will certainly be better ones later today.
So, I received my iPad2 yesterday. After the initial discovery phase, first thing I had to change the wallpaper from the rain theme into something more sunny.
The iPad is actually a good email reader - I am using Google mail and for the private stuff Apple mail. It is convenient, that both programs are relatively similar and that it is easy to go through your inbox and delete mails.
My only "complaint" is the on-screen keyboard. I went to the AWS site to check out, how the iPad reacts on heavy Javascript. With still using the default settings, I had severe difficults to log in. After discovering and disabling the Auto-Capitalization option, life was much better.
I then answered an email from my sister in German - it was probably my first email with proper German spelling. That is the good news. It was painful, but certainly less awkard than using a PC setting. When writing a sentence like "Grüße aus dem 7-Bit Land" (greetings from the 7bit land), to get in the "ü" you stay on the U key and you get a little menu with "ū ú ü u û û" and then move to the desired "ü". Same procedure to get to the ß.
It would be great, if you (1) don't have to slide to the target character, but that when you stay on the keyboard, that it selects the different options in sequence to be entered if you release the key.
and (2) why not learn which characters were selected and order them by "popularity" - I would not select ū or š because I don't know any word with them (well, my ignorance), whereas it's great to be able to spell exposé correctly.
